Others were lying. Even some didn't show up for work leaving me for dead. Dorothy Kamenshek was one of the women who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). When the war broke out, Dorothy had wanted to become a nurse, but her mother wouldn't let her enlist, for fear of her safety. So, Dorothy and hundreds of other girls tried out for the first-ever professional women's baseball team. Dorothy was one of just 60 girls chosen to play for the AAGPBL. She played in the league for ten whole seasons, and played on the All-Star team all seven times they formed such a team  After retirement from baseball, Dorothy got her degree in Physical Therapy, and became very successful.
